What's the worst that could happen?

It seems to me that a big relevant debate that can still rage that isn't about the rows (the reality of global climate change) but about one or two things:

1)Is it humans that are the primary causes of climate change? Which is another way of asking if we can really do anything about it and/or what actions we should take in altering the climate such that it is easier for us to live in it?

or

2) What are the real consequences of not acting on climate change, independent on our role in its occurrence? Will they really be "catastrophic" or will it be manageable? I mean, do we really have to take a stance on the rate of climate change itself, or just let the climate change and look at ways for humans to adapt it to the altered earth?

These questions are realities of responsible policy decisions, and ought to be considered. And it should also be noted that the consequences of acting on climate change may require a lot of public support and focus, focus that could otherwise be used to help starving children in Africa, reducing unemployment and poverty in Canada, resolving native North American conflicts, ending needless wars around the world, and maybe even freeing Tibet for Christ's (or maybe Buddha's) sake sake.
